Agora

Agora

This Greek-themed Montrose study-like drinkery is perfect for a night studying with fellow collegiate types, or just a quiet first-date night, to suss out whether or not your current crush is worth keeping around.
Shiloh Club

Shiloh Club

With its full bar, friendly staff and large patio, think of Shiloh as the Cheers of the Heights. Many regulars - a cast of likely characters full of everything from war stories to neighborhood gossip - have been coming to Shiloh for years.
Wild West

Wild West

Cougars, male and female, abound at Wild West most every night as urban kickers and suburban cowboys descend to drink cheap longnecks and dance to the slickest radio country around.

    The Den

    4835 Calhoun Houston, TX 77004
    281-888-4299

http://www.uhdenbar.com Whether you're leaving a Dynamo game or finishing up a long day of school, the Den offers an expansive drink menu, numerous beers on tap and food at some of the Inner Loop's most reasonable prices. The menu is limited to coleslaw, sandwiches and potato salads, but the quality is high and the portions are generous. If you aren't a UH student, you may have difficulty parking around this on-campus bar during the day, but not after 8 p.m. and on weekends; don't worry about being towed during those times either. Filled with students doing schoolwork on weekdays, The Den offers a free postgame beer or two during football season if the Cougars win. Student or not, do bring your ID, because The Den doesn't mess around when it comes to carding. More >>

  • Etta

    Etta's Lounge

5120 Scott St. Houston, TX 77004
    713-528-2611

This venerable Third Ward establishment - "open 'til it closes, seven days a week" - has reined it in significantly from its glory-ridden heyday. Once a raucous blues joint frequented by Lightnin' Hopkins, Etta's no longer hosts live music, but the friendly bar and eatery still cooks up a mean piece of catfish or some tasty barbecue, and serves plenty of cold beer to wash it all down. Be mindful that whenever folks are done buying food and drink, and the dominoes in the corner cease slamming onto the tabletop, Etta's shuts down for the night. It won't likely be your late-night spot of choice, but you just might fall in love with Etta's all the same. More >>
