When the day's work is done at the Maxwell House Coffee plant, this old Eastside haunt comes to life. As the factory workers filter in for happy hour rounds of some of the cheapest beer to be found in the city, this sleepy bar comes to life with Tejano blaring on the jukebox. In house entertainment consists of a couple Pool tables that have seen better days and you'd be better off using a tree branch instead of the even more haggard pool cues. But that is just part of the charm, if you're looking for top shelf drinks and super models to hit on; this isn't the place for you. If you're looking for a somewhere to get lost or just a spot to down a couple Lone Stars with a few friends, well you found the right place. More >>

http://www.heightsvinyl.com Houston music lovers gained a true treasure when Heights Vinyl opened up in late 2011. The little shop run by Craig Brown has become a destination for record hunters on the lookout for quality used stock, but Brown’s passion for music extends to more than just making a sale. He also thinks Heights Vinyl has a mission to support the local music scene and the bands who roll through town, shown by the store's hosting record releases, in-store appearances, and special acoustic performances on its “High Noon Stage." These events often feature another of Houstonians' favorite activities: drinking free beer from local breweries. What’s not to love? More >>
http://www.hideawayondunvale.com Steve Selfridge has created what might be Houston's most underrated - and therefore perfect - dive bar way out west on Dunvale at Richmond. You can smoke cigars on the sprawling patio. You can order ten-pound buckets of crawfish in season. You can eat a whole lobster or a steak-and-baked-potato on the cheap during certain nightly specials. And you can usually see some excellent blues and and classic rock cover bands while you're chowing down. Better yet - even if you don't bring a friend, you'll likely have made a few by the time you leave. More >>

This is definitely your father's gig. If you think Nirvana is, like, old, or that the Dave Clark Five were bank robbers from Killeen, you're in the wrong place at this windowless disco in the middle of strip mall, um, nirvana. Most nights the DJ spins everything from Buddy Holly to the Beach Boys to the Bee Gees, so it's the place for boomers who refuse to let go of the past or the younger folk who think modern alt-rock isn't worth a darn. Occasionally, bands are booked along the same lines -- hardy perennials Vince Vance & The Valiants are a fave draw. More >>
http://www.houseofblues.com From its traditional, Southern-inspired fine dining to its down-home
Creole cuisine, this place rocks, literally. The one-of-a-kind
interior boasts one of the largest folk art collections in the
country with art on every flat surface. The Voodoo Shrimp with Dixie
Beer reduction is a must-try, as is the smoked turkey and shrimp
gumbo. Be sure to leave room for the white chocolate banana bread
pudding, which is heavenly. The plush, private, members-only Foundation
