http://www.mangoscafehouston.com Mango's is now the de facto hub of the Houston punk and garage scene, just as it was over a decade ago when it was known as the Oven. Located on the corner of Taft and Westheimer, the club is in prime biking and walking distance for neighborhood twentysomethings, with music most every single night of the week. Cheap beers and mixed drinks too. More >>

http://www.masraffs.com Continental cuisine may be outdated, but Masraff's makes it seem new.
The steak tartare is awesome and the wild salmon is excellent. The
brunch here is one of the best deals in town. It comes with good
coffee, hot croissants, house-made, extra-chunky orange marmalade,
and an excellent jazz trio. More >>

http://www.milleroutdoortheatre.com Nestled at the foot of "Hippie Hill," one of Houston's only elevations - and a man-made one at that - this 1,600-seat proscenium-style amphitheater has fallen on hard times since its bigger, flashier look-alike, the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, opened up in The Woodlands. You can't tell by its appearance, though - the 36-year-old facility has never looked better, and the concessions are lately much improved. Through the spring, summer and fall, the venue hosts an eclectic assortment of free plays, ethnic music events, dance exhibitions and classical concerts. The view of the city from the top of Hippie Hill is hard to beat, and elevation-starved local kids love to gambol on its slopes, making this perhaps the finest family music venue in town. More >>
http://www.mktbar.com MKT BAR is located right inside Phoenicia Specialty Foods, one of the best grocery stores in the city. It's also not a bad little date place, with enough dim lighting and extensive wine and beer lists to keep you busy in addition to the bar food. All of the music is local, and ranges from DJ sets, jazz combos, light rock offerings so it's not too intrusive. More >>
http://www.myspace.com/montroseminingcompany Cheap, strong drinks, friendly service and muscular male dancers working hard for the money are just a few of Montrose Mining Company's perks. Long a favorite of Pacific Street's "Leather and Levis" crowd, the Mining Company is a sight to behold. The wood floors and barrels give the nondescript building's interior a modern-country feel and amiable vibe, and the spacious outdoor patio provides all the fresh air you can breathe when this mine's quarters start getting a little too close.
