  • R & R Sports Bar & Grill

    R & R Sports Bar & Grill

1840 Barker Cypress Houston, TX 77084
    281-578-2704

https://www.facebook.com/pages/RR-Sports-Bar-Grill/103865709958 R&R Sports Bar & Grill takes the dark and smoky approach to its decor, with long bar tables and a small stage made for off-key karaoke. Push the chairs aside and you can show that you were made for dancing all night long to the pub’s featured live bands. Or you can get onstage and start your own: This month, R&T hosts Big Slick and Inside Out. In addition to the live and homemade entertainment, R&R has daily drink specials, with $2 margaritas or $3 pint beers. From Thirsty Thursdays to Ladies Night, there’s always something going on here. • Red Cat Jazz Cafe

    Red Cat Jazz Cafe

711 Franklin St. Houston, TX 77002
    713-226-7870

http://www.redcatjazzcafe.com Even if you don't know Miles Davis from Buddy Miles or John Coltrane from John Legend (or jazz fusion from fusion cooking, for that matter), there's something about being in a jazz club that automatically makes you feel more, well, sophisticated. Downtown's Red Cat Jazz Café, though, offers uptown sophistication with a down-home Southern twist and spacious brick-wall acoustics that ensure you never miss a (blue) note. Several of the Red Cat's resident artists — elder-statesman vocalist Ardis Turner and New Orleans native/Patti LaBelle duet partner Mary Griffin — play jazz that, like Houston itself, has been heavily infiltrated by blues, R&B and soul. And don't forget to eat — the Red Cat's Louisiana-flavored menu (pricey, but worth it) and full bar will fill your belly as satisfyingly as the music fills your ears. More >>

  • The Remington

1919 Briar Oaks Lane Houston, TX 77027
    713-403-2631

The St. Regis Hotel describes the atmosphere at The Remington as "casual elegance," which is on point. The food takes a Texan slant on American fusion cuisine. Though it's fairly casual cuisine for the price, much attention is paid to plating and appearance. The interior carries on the Texas theme with a red, white and blue (although mostly red) seating area. Quick-service executive lunches are available for hungry workers to go. More >>

  • Ringside At Sullivan

    Ringside At Sullivan's

    4608 Westheimer Houston, TX 77027
    713-961-0333

http://www.sullivansteakhouse.com The name of the bar at Sullivan's Steakhouse is a totally appropriate moniker, really, given the amount of cougars prowling this circus. We've literally never been in this bar without spotting at least one table of cougars on the prowl, and the bar stays open quite late, so we can imagine it only gets better as the night goes on. Lots of good wine and an interesting crowd keep these ladies coming back night after night, we'd guess. More >>

  • Rudi Lechner

    Rudi Lechner's Restaurant and Bar

    2503 S. Gessner Road Houston, TX 77063
    713-782-1180

http://www.rudilechners.com For those in search of German cuisine with a Texas flair, Rudi Lechner's is a popular destination. Classic German dishes like wiener schnitzel served with red cabbage and potatoes; a grilled sausage trio including bratwurst, knackwurst and Polish sausage; and the simple, freshly baked pretzel and mustard are the house favorites. Though German food is generally a meat-heavy cuisine, the menu includes several seafood and vegetarian options. Lunchtime is generally quiet, while weekend dinners can get downright rowdy with live polka performances and dancing. More >>

  • Rudyard

    Rudyard's

    2010 Waugh Houston, TX 77006
    713-521-0521

http://www.rudyardspub.com Where else in Houston could you see Valient Thorr, eat a near-orgasmic cheeseburger (seriously, it's kinda sexy), watch the Rockets on the tube and play a game of drunkenly dangerous darts all in the same night? Rudyard's, that's where! Located just off Waugh in the Montrose and amidst town homes and sketchy backstreets, its charm isn't manufactured or pre-packaged like all the other corporate "pubs" in town. Rudz is a product of its environment through and through, populated by our city's own indie musicians and artists. The beer menu is lively and always changing, so be sure to stop by frequently to taste some of the state's best micro-brews. Also, the bathroom wall graffiti is the best in town. The above-average bar food is popular. More >>
