http://www.m2sports.com For most Inner Loop dwellers, M2 Sports' location way down Westheimer is a hike, but if you are looking for great deals and greater gear for your excursion, then you can't do any better than the locally owned M2 Sports. They carry wakeboarding gear, snowboard stuff and even skateboarding supplies. That includes the boards themselves, plus boots, outerwear and accessories like GoPro-style cameras. Minute Maid Park

    501 Crawford Houston, TX 77002

http://houston.astros.mlb.com/hou/ballpark/index.jsp Whether the Astros are making a World Series run (we miss you, 2005) or languishing in last place, you can have yourself a great night downtown at Minute Maid Park and not put much of a dent in your pocket at all. (We do advise filling up before the game, though; some tickets are cheap, but hot dogs and drinks are another story.) There's always a slew of great offers on the team's Web site: Maybe it's buy an adult ticket for seven bucks, and two kids under 14 can get in free with you. Or maybe it's a ticket, hot dog, soda and chips all for $10. The point is, bargains are there to be had. "Sure," you scoff — you old scoffer, you — "But the seats are probably in the last row near the roof and in fair territory." To a degree, true, but not completely. And the fact remains that Minute Maid is about as easy as it gets when it comes to the time-honored tradition of "improving" your seat. There's the Home Run Alley standing room, of course; there's also typically a wide selection of field-level seats sitting empty. Wait a couple of innings and then look like you belong. More >>

    Mulligan's Golf

11010 Jones Road Houston, TX 77070
    281-890-6026

http://www.mulligansgolf.com Mulligan's Golf is a laid-back place where you can have a good time and shank a few balls without being called a "trunk slammer." The range is hidden along a stretch of FM 1960 filled with empty retail strips. But Mulligan's has survived for close to 20 years. It's a family-owned place, and it shows in the attention they pay to their customers' experiences, as well as range maintenance. The pro shop will re-grip or re-shaft your clubs, and beer is also for sale. There's also a nine-hole, par-three course if you feel like getting off the range. Both the range and the course are open until 9 p.m. and lighted. More >>
