An Evening with Neil deGrasse Tyson

Wed., June 17, 8 p.m. 2015
$65 to $150
Scientists rarely attain rock-star status. Bill Nye, “The Science Guy,” reached Inspector Gadget-like fame among kids who watched PBS, and Carl Sagan was revered by science nerds, but neither attained pop-culture popularity on the same level as minor entertainers enjoy.

Enter Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson, an award-winning astrophysicist, author and television host, in Houston for An Evening with Neil deGrasse Tyson. With more than 3 million Twitter followers, a recent revival of Sagan’s beloved PBS series Cosmos (this go-round on Fox in primetime) and a late-night science-themed talk show, Tyson is approaching a level of success typically reserved for pop stars. More important, he is bringing science to the masses and making it cool for a technology-savvy generation that grew up on Star Trek sequels and The Big Bang Theory. During his Houston appearance, he’ll discuss the current state of science, what we know and what we think is still left to find out.

8 p.m. Jones Hall for the Performing Arts, 615 Louisiana. For information, call 713-227-4772 or visit $65 to $150.
