Whether you choose to attend Thursday’s ultra-exclusive preview party with the flamenco and Spanish motifs of Moodafaruka, or Saturday’s wall-to-wall auction and party with Texas Johnny Boy, this year’s (the 20th annual) Art on the Avenue should be a show-stopper. Patrick Renner (we named him one of our MasterMind Award winners for 2015) will be hauling the materials up the labyrinthine staircase at Winter Street Studios for a site-specific temporary installation. “He’ll be building it there,” says Kara Niles, director of fund development and communication for presenter Avenue CDC, which is celebrating 25 years of preserving historic architecture and developing affordable housing. “[Renner] has had some help from local school kids who helped him paint the pickets a few weeks ago.” The sculptor, who is known for his large-scale projects, is at it again. “The pickets are big,” says Niles. It’s all for a good cause: Works by 275 artists are on sale, with proceeds benefiting both the artist and Avenue CDC.

There’s a preview party from 6 to 9 p.m. November 3, and an auction and party from 6 to 10 p.m. November 5. 2101 Winter Street. For information, call 713-864-8099 or visit avenuecdc.org/art-on-the-avenue. $40 to $125.

[Organizer's description:] It's the ultimate "buy local" art experience! Art on the Avenue is Houston's largest silent charity art auction, featuring original artwork and jewelry from over 300 local artists and benefitting the community revitalization work of non-profit Avenue Community Development Corporation (CDC). Every purchase supports local artists as well as affordable housing and community improvement initiatives that help low-income Houston families and neighborhoods. This year's event celebrates the 25th Anniversary of Avenue CDC and its positive impact on Houston.

Art on the Avenue has two signature events. The Preview Party on Thursday, Nov. 3 gives guests "first look" and opportunity to bid on the artwork prior to the main Auction and Party on Saturday, Nov. 5. To purchase tickets, visit: avenuecdc.org/art-on-the-avenue/

New this year, art-inspired bites, curated by PaperCity’s Jailyn Marcel and James Brock, will be presented for preview party guests by local chefs such as Lee Ellis from Lee’s Creamery, Javani King from Dolce Ultra Lounge & Bistro, David Skinner from Eculent and Barbara McKnight from Culinaire. An original art installation by Houston artist Patrick Renner will be constructed for the occasion.

Preview Party - Tables starting at $2,000; Tickets are $100 in advance; $125 at the door Auction and Party - $30 early bird thru Sept. 15, 2016, $40 online pre-sale, $50 at the door
