The Center for Hearing and Speech (CHS) will celebrate 70 years of serving children with hearing loss in the Houston area at its annual Sound & Soul Gala March 31 at the Hyatt Regency Downtown Houston. The Center was founded in 1947 as The Houston School for Deaf Children by four parents who believed their children with hearing loss should have the opportunity to listen and speak. Today, CHS has evolved into the central resource for hearing loss identification, intervention, and education for children in Greater Houston. Honorees for the 70th anniversary gala are the 13 people who have served as Chairmen of the Center’s board of directors. The gala committee consists of many of the Center’s former gala chairs. The evening will consist of a cocktail reception, big board auction, dinner, program, live auction and dancing with Emerald City Band. Funds raised from the gala will go towards critical programs and services for children with hearing loss. The Center hopes to raise $575,000 from this year’s event.
