The Blessing of Dark Water. This collection of poems chronicle a long life in art, abuse, and mental illness. They have the scale and finality of a novel, the empathy and closely observed detail of a memoir and have drawn comparison to Sylvia Plath's tone and language.
Houston-based poet, Elizabeth Lyons, reads from her new book The Blessing of Dark Water, winner of the 2015 Alice James Award. The reading will also feature graduate students from University of Houston's prestigious writing program: Erika Jo Brown, author of I'm Your Huckleberry; JSA Lowe, author of two poetry chapbooks, DOE and Cherry-emily; and newcomer Brendan Stephens, whose fiction has appeared in Southeast Review and elsewhere.
