Nicole Longnecker Gallery presents dual exhibitions: Harumi Shimazu in coordination with Yuki Miyamoto of Art Alliance/Tokyo and Linde Pieper and Seth Daulton featuring new print works from both artists. Harumi Shimazu’s exhibition will feature a site-specific installation featuring glass balls that seem to float from the gallery ceiling and blend into the floor. She views nature as a vast living organism, and tries to represent the energy of life and the ephemeral beauty in nature in both here installations and two-dimensional work. In her own words, “Fragments of wax like flower petals are fluttering in the room. Glass balls are floating and swaying in space and they catch the light and reflect the room in their surfaces. I'm trying to represent the beauty and sadness of life with fragile materials.” The companion exhibit features print-based works from two exciting artists; Linde Pieper and Seth Daulton. Both artists use abstract based images explore the use of colored overlapping hues to manipulate the balance of background and foreground. Their differing methodologies makes for a unique visual discussion. “I’m very excited to offer Houston the opportunity to see Harumi Shimazu’s delicate installation and her luminous encaustic works,” said gallery owner Nicole Longnecker. “The artist talk on Wednesday, July 12, should be a great opportunity to hear about Harumi’s influences and techniques. Her work is very special.”
