Glasstire is presenting the legendary artist Catherine Opie in conversation with celebrated author Eileen Myles as part of our speaker series OFF ROAD. With OFF ROAD, we invite our digital audience to log off their devices and engage live and in-person with the great minds of our time. Cathy and Eileen are both groundbreaking figures in contemporary art and literature, and their conversation promises to be funny, honest and thought-provoking. Catherine Opie is an LA-based photographer who gained wide recognition for her searing self-portraits in the 1990s. Since then, her other bodies of work have included portraits and landscapes; ice fishing; high school football players; and most recently, an elegiac series of photographs on our National Parks. Eileen Myles is a poet, novelist, performer, and art journalist working in Marfa, Texas and New York. She has written the acclaimed collection of stories Chelsea Girls, about growing up in New York, as well as multiple books of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry.
