Sushi’s history goes back to the 3rd century in southeast Asia, where it originated as a way to preserve fish in fermented rice, which was sealed for up to a year before only the fish was consumed. The practice spread to China and eventually Japan, where people began to eat the rice as well instead of throwing it out. Over the last 800 years, sushi has continued to change and evolve, and has spread across the globe to become a popular dish that’s available everywhere from convenience stores to fine dining restaurants.
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the basic skills to make two kinds of rolls:
California roll: imitation crab, cucumber, and avocado
Shaggy dog: fried shrimp, fried shrimp topped with shredded imitation crab
At the end you’ll leave with a new set of skills to try out at home!
This workshop is designed for those with little to no experience in sushi-making, and is appropriate for all ages. Families with children, adults, and lifelong learners are welcome! All supplies and ingredients will be provided.
