Living in the flat, Dutch landscape, Udona Boerema grew to love the abundant, ethereal clouds that seemed to float against the clear, blue sky. Her eureka moment happened on a trip with her parents as they drove into the mountains; she was captivated by the peaks, valleys and just the enormous sense of scale. Boerema lives and works in The Netherlands and, in what will be her first solo exhibition in the United States, is bringing her small-scale paintings to Gray Contemporary in "Transience." Using the mountainous scene as a focal point, almost like a portrait, she paints in a reductive manner with acrylic, making use of washes to create an abstract transparency. The artist will be present during the opening reception. 5 to 8 p.m. February 25. Continuing 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. February 25 through April 1. 3508 Lake.
