Reclaim your own authority and explore the history of women’s struggle for a legitimate voice in the decision-making processes that directly and indirectly affect them. Women have always had to fight for rights — to vote, to keep their property after marriage, to earn equal pay. The first part of this workshop will focus on the roles religion, race, and early politics played in shaping American society’s expectations of women’s behavior and how difficult it has been for women to claim their personal power without suffering severe consequences. The second half of the workshop will focus on the ways personal power is given or taken away and strategies for reclaiming it.
