Fort Bend County Libraries will present a special program to encourage aspiring writers, “Writing in Another Realm? Explore Fantasy and Science-Fiction Writing,” on Saturday, August 19, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, in the Meeting Room of the First Colony Branch Library, 2121 Austin Parkway in Sugar Land. A panel of Houston-area authors who are members of the Houston Writers Guild – Dorothy Tinker, Kelly Lynn Colby, Julian Kindred, and Fern Brady – will talk about what they do to create such vivid worlds in their fantasy stories. They will also discuss the difference between the fantasy genre and science fiction. The Houston Writers Guild is a volunteer-run, nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging a community of writers of all skill levels. Members of the group represent many genres and stages of careers. The workshop is free and open to the public. For more information, call the First Colony Branch Library at 281-238-2800 or the library system’s Public Information Office at 281-633-4734.
