We don’t often see red-tailed bumblebees in Houston, but at the exhibit "Extreme Bugs" not only will there be red-tailed bumblebees, they’ll be 60 times as large as usual. In “Extreme Bugs,” a family exhibit that will spend the summer at the Houston Zoo, giant animatronic versions of bugs both friendly and deadly are on display. Along with the bumblebees, there’ll be a grasshopper, a dragonfly, a ladybug and hordes of ants. There’s also a Mexican red-knee tarantula, an emperor scorpion and a bombardier beetle. Some 13 species are represented in all (some, like the ants, will have several replicas).
9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Daily. Through September 1. 6200 Hermann Park Drive. For information, call 713-533-6500 or visit houstonzoo.org. $3.95 with paid general admission.
