With superheroes of all sorts, shapes, colors and cuts of cape crowding movie theaters this summer, it’s not surprising that champions of a more scientific kind will make their debut during the Children’s Museum of Houston’s “Summer of Epic Adventure: The Sequel.” Over the course of the season, during 11 weekly episodes, the museum becomes home to The League, a sort of training institute for six new education-based heroes (like Snap Shot, who has speed, and Power House, who has control over gas — though not the type that will make kids giggle incoherently). At “Epic Adventure,” kids learn about the science behind water flow, weather aspects, gadgetry and…ice cream! Bands, trained dogs, and even Superman and Spider-Man (or at least their costumed character counterparts) will be on hand to help the young heroes fight summer foes like The Boredom Bandit. And in the Arena of Super Awesomeness, comic book headliners in training take part in more physical activities in areas like archery, lasers and — most important to any kid crusaders — building and smashing things!
9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Daily. Through August 31. 1500 Binz. For information, call 713-522-1138 or visit cmhouston.org. Free to $9.
