Christie's is a well-known Westheimer staple that was started as a beachside fish stand by Theodore Christie in 1917. According to local lore, he invented a sandwich-ready fried fish patty that later became the fish stick before moving his entire operation into Houston. Today, Christie's serves a wide variety of seafood, much of it straight out of the Gulf. Besides bisque and chowder, they also serve all kinds of fish, shellfish and various combinations thereof. They have a small Cajun-style menu, a selection of sandwiches and po-boys, and, of course, steaks. The atmosphere is classy but relaxed, and many menu items are available a la carte.
