Approaching Wayside Drive from I-10 on Houston's east side, Palmer's Ice House beckons with an enticing neon glow and draws a sizable, predominantly Hispanic crowd. It probably doesn't hurt that the brews are fairly inexpensive, or that the big patio offers an escape from the bustling crowds when needed. Live bands mean Palmer's small dance floor is often lively on the weekend. A bona fide taco truck is parked next to the patio when your stomach decides it needs some late-night grub.
