1308 Cantina
1308 Montrose
Houston, TX 77019
713-807-8996
1308 Cantina offers countless variations on fajita platters and combo plates with standout sides including faux paella and smoky, deep-flavored charro beans. Try a blood orange mojito and the creamy tomatillo salsa.
Consistency is not on the menu at 1308. However, "Never the Same" is always an entree selection. If you had a dish there once and liked it - enjoy! The service is just so, so bad. The waiters take your order and totally muck it up. Once your plate is plunked down on your table these guys are out of there never bothering to ask if you require utensils or anything else for that matter. When they do appear, tyring to get their attention takes all the skill of a flag waver at the Indy 500. 3 out of the 4 times dining there, one person in our group never got their entree. Trying to read the menu in the dark is probably why some entrees never ever appear. The waiter can't see to write and the chef can't prepare what isn't on the ticket. Turn up the wattage on the lights - puleez! Regardless, go to 1308, drink, see and be seen. Isn't that what going out to eat is all about? Who cares about the service or the food or the costs? Valet parkers never tell you that you can park your car in the back even when you ask about additional parking - not valet! Keep it up 1308 - well done!

Geez, Elizabeth...having a bad day (or year?). My friends and I find your "review" a bit hard to believe, seeing as we can refute just about every one of your points. We find the staff always more than accomodating and the atmosphere inviting, especially up front. I brought in my 82 year old grandmother and she read the menu just fine. Even if she couldn't, I'm sure thee staff wouldn't mind brightening the lights a bit...just ask! And 3 missed entrees??? Hmmmm, Elizabeth. One question...why keep going back? Finally, there are clearly marked signs that point to the large parking lot out back. But then again, the valet service is FREE so why would you have a problem taking advantage of this service when most restaurants of this caliber charge up to $8? We're lucky in the Montrose; we can go out for fabulous food AND see and be seen. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Overall:
The food is very good. Our waiter Adrian was excellent. The salsa needs more kick, but I can live with that. This is not the place to go if your Muslim, Jewish or allergic to pork. They put it in everything and do not mention it on the menu. The beans had pork which we expected and asked, the waiter swiftly whisked them away and replaced them with another side. The white rice had bacon in it and at that point we just gave up and paid the check and left. We won't be back. However if the pork fest OK with you, you will enjoy eating here.
