Boondocks

1417 Westheimer
Houston, TX 77006
713-522-8500
Website
It can be said that you make your own Boondocks experience. Over the past two years, this bar has become a firm staple in the Poison Girl/Catbirds triangle off of lower Westheimer. Imagine the Regal Beagle for boys with chest tattoos and girls in leggings who will never understand them. The cool thing about Boons isn't just the jukebox, the massive smoking area outside or the storied seldom-working photo booth. It's that any night of the week you can experience any smattering of scenes and genres you want. Fridays and Saturdays are mostly dirty dance nights, while Mondays are reserved for local acts. Houston blues legend Little Joe Washington holds things down on Tuesdays. All the other nights, you can drown your sorrows with New Order and Neil Young oozing out of the jukebox. Just be careful going down the stairs when you're tipsy.

The Inside Word on Boondocks

Boondocks has become one of my favorite places to hang out. First it's a stop at Poison Girl and thena short 2 block walk over to Boondocks. This place is a little different than other clubs here in Houston. One one night you can listen to up and coming local indie and experimental bands, another night you can slow it down with Little Joe Washington. On the weekends this place gets packed. Here you will get a mix of everything. From grindhouse soundtracks to electro pop trash this is a fun place to be. This place is a great melting pot of different people so enjoy mingling.
