El Big Bad

419 Travis St Houston, TX 77002 | Downtown/ Midtown | 713-229-8181

Location Description:

This downtown “gastro-cantina” is indeed big, with more than 10,000 square feet of bar and dining-room space, including a private dining room and second-story balcony overlooking Prairie and Travis streets below. El Big Bad specializes in handcrafted infused tequilas, with more than 50 varieties in large glass jars displayed in a case by the stairs that reaches all the way up to the second floor. Though they rotate by season, recent infusions on offer included strawberry, roasted jalapeno, peanut butter, vanilla habanero, roasted red beet and more. Fresh juice margaritas and original cocktails such as the blueberry jalapeno cilantro and spicy blue habanero number among the favorite drinks here. A menu of Mexican and South American food can also be washed down with a big selection of Texas and Mexican beers; a full bar is also available. Parties celebrating Cinco de Mayo and Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) are big hits here, and once a month during the full moon, El Big Bad offers drink specials, brings in a DJ to play music, and projects a giant full moon onto the side of the building. Be sure to check out the beautiful mural over the top of the bar downstairs depicting the story of Mayahuel, an Aztec Goddess of Fertility and Agave.
