Run by head cook and surrogate mother Eydie Prior, Lankford's may be the homiest restaurant in the city. The enormous breakfasts, with perfect eggs and homemade hash browns, are just like Mom used to make. Eydie's kitschy decorations change seasonally. Her grandkids often sit at the bar and watch cartoons. Lankford's really was a grocery when Eydie's parents opened it in 1939, but hamburgers are what have made the place famous. The nightly dinner specials, especially the enchiladas and chicken-fried steak, also have a loyal following.

The Inside Word on Lankford Grocery and Market

They have the best burger in Houston hands-down. Old-school mom and pop shop. Always super crowded at lunch, but well worth the wait. Not the best place for a big group. The indoor/outdoor seating is very limited.
