Spread out over the whole second-story of a former Chinese food depot in the Warehouse District, the Meridian boasts two stages and double that amount of drink stations. The surroundings are humble and homey, it's not overly clean like most mid-size concert venues in town where you can't walk five feet without seeing someone constantly cleaning up drunken messes. The Meridian's main goal is to bring the rock, not "wow" you with surly restroom attendants. In the past year the venue has welcomed such varied acts as the Lucero and Nitzer Ebb and the stray burlesque show to its shadowy stages. The venue recently melded with The Java Jazz, further bolstering its metal scene rep.
This place was way over priced for a 3 hour show, and the cops that they have working should be thrown in jail themselves. You hear about crooked police, but this place is swarming with them.

Overall:
the meridian is a rip off. the drinks are way to pricy for a venue. unless you really want to see the band showcased, DONT GO THERE!

I've seen some good shows here while the majority have been piss poor. Unfortunately the problem hasn't been with the band, it is the venue. After enough shows, I have found that the sound is simply awful at the Meridian. And as I go to the show to hear the band play live and could careless about the "lightshow", I have to wonder if the Press just threw a bone at this place.
It is a shame as the Meridian is a cool venue and I have talked with plenty of cool employees there. Alcohol is moderatly priced when compared to similar sized venues around town.
This problem became extremely evident with the opening of the new House of Blues, as before even the main opening, at the Rev Horton Heat show. We were blown away by the sound of a band we had seen not 6 months earlier at Meridian. One of the owners was at this show and we can only hope that with the pictures he took and the interest he took of the sound engineer's station that some change will happen soon. Unfortunately, many of the bands I would have seen at Meridian are now going to the House of Blues, so it is doubtful that I will get to experience any drastic changes soon.

Yuri's Night is a world wide event and as Houston to celebrate the achievements in Space Exploration. Houston, aka 'Space City', is one of the world's centers for Human Spaceflight and as such has a lot to celebrate and look forward to! Yuri's Night Houston provides that celebration and this year the event is going to be at The Meridian with live music, fire dancers, special guests, a DJ, space exhibits, and a raffle for a chance to win an weightless experience! It's bound to be a good time so come on out and have some fun as we celebrate the past and the future!
(Yes, I'm one of the event orgainizers shamelessly promoting the event. See ya in less than a week! :-) )
