A converted old house is the new home of Segaris, the restaurant that Sam Segari started in the 90s on Durham. The quirky little place has nine tables that fill up quickly, and a third of the place is taken up by a well-stocked bar. Everyone seems to be a regular here. The menu has many seafood specials, all at market prices (maybe thats why no prices are listed on the menu). Everything served here is absolutely top-quality and as fresh as can be. Desserts here are listed first on the menu, cause thats the way Sam liked them. Their bread pudding with whiskey sauce is remarkable. - Paul Galvani
The food is plentiful and comes hot out of the kitchen. There is usually one person (sometimes there is two people)that works the bar and waitress at the same time, so if you don't have alot of time don't plan on eating here. The food is delicious, but the menu does not have prices. I recommend that either you ask the waitress the price of what you are going to order or tell them your budget and ask them what their recommendations are so you won't be shocked when the bill arrives. Don't be suprised if the waitress verbally abuses you or asks you to leave the restaurant if you make a statement about the slow service because Segari's really has no tolerance for their patrons input or freedom of speech. We first ate at Segari's one year ago with another couple and had a good time. We have eaten at Segari's four times as a couple since our initial visit. When we went into the restaurant last week the waitress told us that she could not serve us because we were banned from eating in their restaurant FOREVER. I went the next day after lunch to Segari's to talk with Angela Segari. She told me that the reason she was banning my wife & I from eating in their restaurant was because my wife was rude 2 or 3 years ago to her on the anniversary of her fathers death. Angela also said my wife has never apologized for her rude behavior. I was totally blown away that some insensitive kid was accusing and in the process slandering my wife (whom every Judge and Attorney in town that knows her would tell Angela that she is sweeter than apple pie)of being rude to her. After talking to my wife she told me that her first vist to Segari's was one year ago and that Angela has sadly mistaken her for somebody else. I am still in shock that Angela feels that she can berate and mistreat her patrons because of her mistake. We won't ever go back to eat at Segari's and we continue to tell our friends and other people in our community of this bizarre story.

I thought this forum is supposed to be a restaurant review, not a place to complain about a waitress or an owner. Tedd, from the 2/19/08 comment, you seem like a real whiner. If you have the time to make it your personal goal to tell all your "friends" and "community" about your bad experience, then I can see why you were banned. You sound like a real jerk, friend. I want to open a restaurant just so I can ban you from it.
Now, to get back on topic . . . my experiences at Segari's have been a breath of fresh air. In a city full of corporate restaurants, it is so nice to go to a place where you feel like an individual and not a number. Everything I have eaten has been amazing. I've had the gumbo, crabmeat, shrimp, crab cakes, lamb, bread pudding, and chocolate mousse. I'm still working my way through the menu and I can't wait.
Oh, and I met Angela Segari and thought she was genteel and wonderful.
