Things have certainly changed in the Heights over the past several years, but the Shady Tavern remains the same. Once a hoppin’ music venue (and onetime winner of the Press’s coveted Best Ice House Stage award) the tavern is considerably quieter now that the surrounding residences have upgraded from one-bedroom apartments to million-dollar estates. And since well-off folks tend to complain about noise (and call the police) as early as 9 p.m., the music has mostly gone the way of didus Ineptus. But the Shady Tavern soldiers on, secure in its niche. Cozy and spacious, oozing with character, it’s still a favorite watering hole for a large contingency of regulars as well as a place where the local gentry can go and let their hair down and watch the game.
