Houston's favorite halal-Chinese restaurant is a little joint on Hillcroft adjoining an Indian grocery store. The food is sort of like Szechwan minus the pork, and with extra chile peppers. Most of the patrons are either Muslim or Indian -- this kind of Indo-Chinese fusion food is incredibly popular in Bombay and throughout the subcontinent. Skip the sweet Manchurian and shashlik dishes, but if you like hot food, don't miss the rip-your-lips-off "chicken chilli dry." Halal restaurants don't serve beer, so buy a six-pack, rent a Bollywood movie and get it to go.
