Walter’s On Washington has the distinct honor of being one of H-Town’s last true rock clubs. They aren’t a corporate operation, no one is sweeping up beer bottles during a show, and more than likely you won’t have to pay to park. And booze is dirt cheap, unlike some places around here that put a dent in your merch money to buy a Pabst. Walter’s didn’t see much action early on, save for the random local act or the stray country show. But ever since Mary Jane’s shut down across the street, Walter’s began taking the load of indie rock and metal shows swinging through town. It’s dark and cave-like, but the air conditioner is always blasting away like a mofo, so it doesn’t get too hot during a show for all you old-timers. It’s also an all-ages venue, which is good or bad depending on whom you ask. The sound quality is amazingly clear for a venue its size as well. In late August the club announced that they would be moving out of the Washington corridor and into more indie-hospitable digs somewhere else in the Loop. We will keep you posted.
