Ask a Rapper: Bun B on His Thanksgiving Food Drive and Why He Seems to Be Everywhere
The hip-hop world is a less than sensible place - lots of times, you're even required to clarify when bad means bad and when bad means good - so once a week we're going to get with a rapper and ask them to explain things. Something you always wanted to ask a rapper? Email email@example.com.
Go ahead and add another notch to our Grammy Winners Interviewed For Ask A Rapper list. Thanks.This Week's Rapper:
Bun BThis Week's Subject(s):
Thanksgiving; Boost Mobile's altruism; Community outreachAAR: So lets give everyone a quick drop on this Boost Mobile thing that you have going on. Seems like something positive that more people need to know about.
Bun B: I think this is a great opportunity to give back to the community. Boost Mobile was kind enough to let me participate. We'll be going to different neighborhoods giving out turkeys, doing canned food drives and then afterwards there'll be a free concert at Hush [Nightclub] featuring myself. We'll also be doing a meet and greet. We'll start out in Port Arthur and then come to Houston and do another turkey giveaway and canned food drive. You can get a free ticket to the show by showing up and bringing five canned goods.AAR: Why do you participate in these types of things? More to the point, why do we see you everywhere we go? It's like, you're an unofficial act at every show.
BB: I mean, you know, it's good to give back to the people that give to you. I try to make it so that it's not blind, empty faces that are buying these albums or showing support. Especially in this economy, where people might have a hard time spending money on something they like, I want to let people that I appreciate the support that they're showing. It's Thanksgiving, that's what this event is about, giving thanks. Another thing is Boost Mobile will be making a donation to Bethel's Place, the community outreach program at my church, Bethel's Family. I think that's a beautiful thing.AAR: Very cool.
BB: I want to make sure people come out and see us. They can go towww.hushonline.com
to get information and they can come out to Boost Mobile in Westhill Village.AAR: Us? Are there going to be more people at your concert? We thought it was going to be a Bun B-only show.
BB: I mean, it's me, but there might be some other people out there, there might be someone else. I might have a friend in town or something.Boost Mobile is opening their first retail store in Houston, part of the reason that they've aligned with Bun B: to connect with the community. The store is located at 7541 Westheimer in Westhill Village.
