Not many folks can claim to have played with Roky Erickson, written Christmas hits for Garth Brooks and had a song in Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Wimberley songwriter and guitar-slinger Cam King can. He was also once part of the torrid Austin punk band the Explosives, who so impressed former 13th Floor Elevator Erickson that he used them as his band. King's career has gone through a maturation process that has taken him from San Francisco to Austin to Nashville and recently back to Wimberley, where he collaborates with singer-songwriter Kim Miller. While his writing has veered toward country music, he remains one of the most intense rock and roll players around. His appearance as part of the Billy Block Western Beat package show this week ensures there will be plenty of excitement and instrumental fireworks.
