DJ Screw would never have imagined that one day a festival large enough to require Reliant Arena would be held in his honor. Sadly, the inventor and namesake of all things screwed and chopped left this world earlier than anyone planned, but he left an indelible impression the short time he was here. Screw single-handedly invented a whole new hip-hop subgenre by slowing records down to a sluggish pace, then chopping and inserting tiny snippets in quick repetition. Some have praised his work as experimental, while others just claim it's damn good hip-hop, but either way, many of Houston's finest MCs owe Screw their careers. By featuring these then-up-and-comers on his famous mixtapes, he gave them exposure and notoriety, so Sunday they gather to salute the Promethazine Pimp. Scheduled to appear are H-town luminaries Pimp C, Slim Thug and, of course, the Screwed Up Clik of Trae, Z-Ro and a whole slew of other great MCs, plus a DJ battle, car show and, of course, bikini contest.
