Every summer needs its indie mixtape anthem, and Foster the People's entry for summer 2011 is "Pumped Up Kicks" from May's full-length debut, Torches. After they formed in late 2009, the band's dancey psych-pop didn't take long to build a rapturous following, catching on with fans of MGMT and Cold War Kids alike. One of Foster's biggest hooks seems to be the drums, which propel each Torches track forward into ass-shaking territory. The group's summer solo tour hits Houston twice, first at a Warehouse Live gig Friday before looping back for a mid-September slot at House of Blues. The day before the HOB show, the band will be making time to play the first day of the Austin City Limits Music Festival. That's what we call "market saturation" in the music bidness.
