Free Press Houston New Year's Eve Cataclysm
Not only is this year's edition of Free Press Houston's annual New Year's Eve bash free for those over 21, it's also a good way to catch up on a few bands who released some of the best albums to come from Houston this year, and also see some bands who were just being birthed around a year ago. Wild Moccasins are the headliners, playing songs from this summer's well-received Skin Collision Past, plus some new cuts still in the works for 2011. Fat Tony finally released his RABDARGAB LP a month ago and is still riding high from the afterglow, while his compatriot B L A C K I E toured extensively behind 2009's Spred Luv. Be sure to check out Weird Party and Delicious Milk, two supergroups that made a splash this year, with the latter opening for whatever it was that Andy Dick was doing a couple weeks back. Excellent Austin garage trio the Hex Dispensers are also on the bill and are a must-see. FPH will be doling out prizes as well, giving away free shirts, tickets and a few passes to Summer Fest 2011 in early June. Never too early to make plans.
