Lollapalooza Lineup Announced... Including Robert Earl Keen
Lollapalooza 2009's line-up was announced this morning, with a few surprises and enough roots rock and earnest indie-rock to satiate Windy City hipsters. The Chicago-based event managed to wrangle in Lou Reed, Depeche Mode, festival whores the Killers, Tennessee pretty boys Kings of Leon, vintner-fronted Tool, the newly reunited and always bickering Jane's Addiction, and boho rap curmudgeons Beastie Boys for the three-day affair August 7-9 at Chicago's sprawling Grant Park. Speaking of mega-festivals, Austin City Limits tickets are already on sale, with the official line-up announcement coming a week from now on April 28. You can bet on the ACL's line-up to be a near spitting image of Lolla's, as it has been in recent years. Especially when it comes to Texas folks like Robert Earl Keen - who may well find himself singing "The Road Goes On Forever" to a bunch of pasty kids waiting for Vampire Weekend or Animal Collective to come on; that image by itself is worth plane fare to Chi-town - the Heartless Bastards and Car Stereo (Wars).
Tickets range from $190 for an advance three-day pass, to a VIP pass to the "Lolla Lounge" set at $850, which can only assume from past experiences at a certain Austin-based mega-festival just gets you a complimentary back massage and all-you-can-eat barbecue.
During a drinking excursion in the capitol city a few weeks back, we drove by ACL site Zilker Park, and saw new irrigation pipes were being installed on the grounds. The dust has been a problem for everyone the past few years and hopefully this will help. One can only pull so much dust out of one's nose each night - obsessive nose-picking is kind of a detriment to the whole "meeting chicks" thing, ya know.
