Legendary country singer Ray Price is not long for this world. But he's not quite gone yet.
Earlier Sunday afternoon, reports of Price's death began surfacing on the Internet from news outlets including Country Weekly, Rolling Stone, USA Today and even Nashville's Tennessean -- none of them citing any kind of confirmation.
"Several posts have been placed on Facebook, and other sources that Ray Price has died," legendary country DJ Bill Mack posted on Facebook Sunday afternoon. "[Price's wife] Janie and the family have again notified me that Ray is fading rapidly, according to the doctors in charge, but has not passed away.
"Just hang in with your prayers for Ray's family. Associated Press, Sirius-XM Radio, other reps of the media will be given immediate info," he added. "Will also post it here."
Last Thursday Price left a Tyler hospital to enter hospice care at his farm near Mt. Pleasant. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a little more than a year ago and was treated by famed physician Dr. Red Duke at a Houston hospital in October.

— Rolling Stone (@RollingStone) December 15, 2013The Tennessean was the first major outlet to publish the erroneous report around 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon; most big newspapers and magazines prepare obituaries on prominent figures ahead of time. The Tennessean later updated its story to say the news of Price's premature demise may have come from the singer's son Cliff, whom the paper reported had posted on Facebook that Price had died but was not at his bedside.
Rolling Stone has also updated its story, and both the Boot and Country Weekly have since erased both their tweets and stories.
