Pass the Wine: Our Writers Review Rolling Stones Merlot
Rocks Off gets bottles of wine here at the office every few weeks. We once had an AC/DC tasting at the office with middling results, though I finished off the Highway to Hell bottle at home by my lonesome, so it wasn't so bad.
I have a bottle of Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon Cabernet Sauvignon waiting on deck to guzzle while I listen to the band's space-y stoner epic, too.

Rock wine is becoming big business. It's a way for fans to show their love of their favorite group in a way that they can drink, rather than wear. The bottles are a lot cheaper than concert tickets and, you know, it's booze so that's always fun.
Recently Rocks Off -- which of course takes its name from the leadoff track on the Rolling Stones' Exile On Main Street album -- was overjoyed to get two bottles of Rolling Stones Merlot from the Wines That Rock people.
We asked a few of our coworkers to try both vintages of the stuff, 2009 and 2010, and describe their impressions using Stones song titles. Which gave everyone a chance to be cute and cheeky.
"2010 is pretty good: 'Happy.' 2009 is awful: 'Turd On the Run'"
"2009: "Gimme Shelter." If I keep drinking this wine, I might end up a homeless wine drinker."
"The 2009 is 'Respectable.' I honestly didn't have high expectations for this wine, but it turned out to be pretty good. It's a very 'Respectable' wine. 'Wild Horses' couldn't keep me away. Was that last line too much?"
"2009 is far more mellow than the 2010 and opens up well with some time and oxygen. 'She Smiles Sweetly' and 'Respectable' are both options here. 2010 hasn't aged as well and is too tannic for my tastes, so 'You Better Move On.'
"I had 'No Expectations' for the 2009, but they were rewarded. 2010: 'Mother's Little Helper.'"
As for this writer, I tried the 2009 vintage because everyone said 2010 was awful. We even have a half bottle of the 2010 left, actually. Maybe I will give it a whirl on a rough deadline day.
I liked the 2009, and I give it a hearty, filling and eager "Dancing With Mr. D," because it's a dark-horse favorite of mine.
