Smoke Drugs Or Snuggle? Roger Waters And Lilith Fair Coming To Town Soon
This morning two big Houston concert announcements came down the wire, sure to delight the senses. One will no doubt get you brownie points from your girlfriend if you go, and the other will probably score you some really wicked brownies from a dude that knows a friend of yours. Pink Floyd architect Roger Waters will be hitting Toyota Center November 20 and playing the band's 1979 landmark The Wall in its entirety. Waters was last in Houston back in May 2008 performing all of Dark Side of the Moon in front of a hazy crowd of erstwhile yuppies, neo-hippie kids and old-guard stoners. Rocks Off was there for the concert, and somehow remembers more of the show than he should. Waters opened the show with a set of the Floyd songs he penned, and then after a brief intermission he launched into Dark Side for the rest of the night. It was a weird drizzly night if we remember and the weather matched the music potently. It was the kind of night where people are double-fisting corndogs in the crowd like beers. No word on ticketing yet for the Waters show, but that should be coming later in the week. Rocks Off will keep you posted.Coming close to the end of the summer concert season will be the resurrected Lilith Fair, set to hit Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion August 15. The lady-centric Sarah McLachlan-helmed tour hasn't been in Houston since a two-day stand in the summer of 1998. On the 1999 tour, it skipped Houston in lieu of dates in Austin and Dallas. The 1998 shows were rife with scandal, which our own Brittanie Shey told you about last week. The line-up for Lilith changes with each date, but with a list of acts that includes McLachlan, Loretta Lynn, Erykah Badu, Mary J. Blige, The Gossip, Cat Power, Emmylou Harris, Metric, and Heart, everyone should be sated. Lilith Fair on-sale dates and Houston's set lineup for August should be made official by the end of the week, and tickets will no doubt go very fast. Maybe not Lady Gaga fast, but you get the picture.
