So Whatcha Want: Austin City Limits Festival Lineup Announced
C3 Entertainment announced the lineup for the 2009 Austin City Limits Music Festival Tuesday morning, and as Rocks Off expected, they might as well start calling the thing Lollapalooza South . Lolla headliners the Beastie Boys and Kings of Leon are both headed to the freshly irrigated Zilker Park October 2-4, as are Ben Harper and Relentless7, Thievery Corporation, Andrew Bird, Decemberists, Arctic Monkeys, Coheed and Cambria, Sound Tribe Sector 9, Bon Iver, Dan Auerbach, Heartless Bastards, Federico Aubele, Passion Pit, White Lies, the Knux and... oh hell, you get the idea.
As rumored, ACL also roped in headliners Pearl Jam and the Dave Matthews Band, so don't forget the flannel and the hackey sacks (but we doubt you would have anyway). Other notable non-Lollapalooza names include John Legend, Lily Allen (easy, Craig), Sonic Youth, Mos Def, Phoenix, Toadies, Flogging Molly, Girl Talk, !!!, Daniel Johnston, the Avett Brothers, The Airborne Toxic Event, the Walkmen, the Virgins, Blitzen Trapper, Dr. Dog, K'Naan, the B-52's, Robyn Hitchcock & the Venus 3, School of Seven Bells, Todd Snider, Reckless Kelly, Deer Tick and the Dodos.
Rocks Off is especially excited about the Levon Helm Band, whose performance will hopefully be as good as Robert Plant & Allison Krauss' set last year, and is glad to see Clutch will be on hand to kick some ass. On first glance, it also looks like ACL has more hip-hop and less country than ever, though of course Asleep at the Wheel will be there. Don't forget several ACL artists will be booking piggyback dates around the festival at various Houston venues - for example, if you're headed to Austin just to see Kings of Leon, don't bother.
