Stardeath & the White Dwarfs

Charlie Sheen's career notwithstanding, nepotism isn't always a bad thing. An example: Oklahoma's Stardeath & the White Dwarfs, whose groovy, experimental sound conjures memories of the Flaming Lips' best moments. This isn't surprising, given that singer Dennis Coyne is Lips front man Wayne Coyne's nephew. In fact, if you've seen or heard the Flaming Lips in the past few years, there's a good chance you've also seen or heard Stardeath, which toured with the Lips and contributed to that band's 2009 reimagining of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. But Stardeath stands strong on its own, layering Dennis Coyne's effortless vocals atop acoustic guitar and jangling synths. Think of it as the perfect soundtrack for your next intergalactic space flight.
