Start Wearing Purple: No Bullies Allowed
Growing up, Craig's Hlist watched a lot of kids in school getting the brunt of the, quote-unquote, "cooler" people giving them hell for being big, gay, handicapped or just smart. They would start fights, make up songs or stories about them, or find ways to embarrass them in front of everyone. Typical, lame movie stuff.
We even remember getting pulled into being a bully and we regret it. Life is way more fun when everyone gets along. At the end of the day we are all scared, and even the bullies have someone else to answer to. You don't know what your friends have to go home to, what pressures they have away from school life.
When you are an adolescent, all you want is to fit in and have friends. It's how you find your way in the world. Craig's Hlist regrets bringing someone pain to this day, even if it was years and years ago.

When we were in elementary school and on into high school, we weren't in with the popular group of kids that ran Pearland. We were in with the headbangers, the nerdy jocks, the theater kids, the artists, the punks, the drunks, and then we became the biggest AV geek in the 77581 ZIP code. These were the the kind of people who would be the victims in '90s teen comedies.
Overall Craig's Hlist wanted to get along with everyone, and like we said, it's more fun that way. When you get older you find that you life is way easier when everyone gets invited to the party. It's hard enough existing, paying bills and going to work every day - eventually life starts bullying you, funnily enough.
Kids can be cruel, so cruel that lately there has been a rash of youth committing suicide after being taunted mercilessly at school and online. Destroying a family forever is not worth getting a cheap laugh.
That's why today, October 20, has been designated as "Wear Purple Day" to raise awareness of the bullying going on against not just gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual teens, but anyone who stands out and is subjected to ridicule.
Remember kids, it gets better. Reading punk zines, Rolling Stone and SPIN magazine in the corner at study hall while your football buddies listen to Creed ends up paying off. Knowing who Klaus Nomi is can eventually get you chicks... somewhat. Just trust us.
Here are some purple-tinged songs in honor of today. The Deep Purple song isn't about the color purple, but they are our favorite band with purple in their name. Deal with it.
"Purple Haze," Jimi Hendrix
"Start Wearing Purple," Gogol Bordello
"Purple Pills," D-12
"Purple People Eater," Sheb Wooley
"Purple Rain," Prince
"The Purple Bottle" Animal Collective
"Black Night," Deep Purple
"Purple Toupee," They Might Be Giants
"Purple Stain," Red Hot Chili Peppers
