The Five Best - And Two Worst - Rapper Actors
The hip-hop world is a less than sensible place - lots of times, you're even required to clarify when bad means bad and when bad means good - so once a week we're going to get with a rapper and ask them to explain things. Have something you always wanted to ask a rapper? Email email@example.com.
This Week's Rapper: Tha Centop
This Week's Subject: Here's one for you to bobble around in your Centopy brain, sir: Chris Brown will be starring in the film adaptation of Steve Harvey's book Think Like A Man.
The question, then: Name the five best rapper-as-actor moments, as well as the two worst. Everyone on the planet would put Tupac's work in Juice on there, so let's nix that one automatically. Also, let's go ahead and nix his unintentional cameo in Nothing But Trouble as well, just because.

5. Redman & Method Man, How High
This is my fifth best because it wasn't really acting, it was two guys portraying themselves and it was funny as hell and they were so comfortable doing it. Nothing better than rappers playing themselves most of the time. Smoke up.
4. Sticky Fingaz ,A Day In the Life
I believe that was the name of the movie. [It's] a movie done completly in rhyme and they even rapped in dialong, plus it made sense. He even co-wrote the film. Check it out.
3. Mos Def, Brown Sugar
He played a rapper that was about real music and refused to dumb down and actually made it. If only real life was like this. [laughs] He was even scared to mack on Queen Latifah.
2. Ice Cube, Boyz N Da Hood
This was maybe Cubes best performance, and the role fit him so well. Plus, it shows the consequences of the ghetto life with no guidance. Plus, the jerry curl on him was classic [laughs].
1. DMX, Belly
This role fit the live wire DMX so well. He is a hell of an actor. Name me one rapper that didn't love this movie.
Next, the worst rapper onscreen performances.
2. Young Jeezy, Janky Promoters
Remember when I said rappers playing themselves was great? Okay, I lied; Jeezy shouldn't act. I don't think he grasped the idea of showing any emotion, nor was he funny.
1. The Game, Belly 2
Who authorized this film? It was horrIble all the way around. Game was the worst person to have star in it. They woulda been better using Jeezy. Sorry, but it sucked donkey penis.
I would have used Pac in Poetic Justice as a great role, [but] that woulda been cliched. These are my opinions and if you don't like them it doesn't matter because Houston Press asked me, not you.
