The Watermarks

Already seen the Psychedelic Furs? Houston's Watermarks cultivate that same kind of sensual, sunglasses-after-dark modern-rock sound – albeit with synthesizers standing in for saxophones, and both live and electronic drums – and have been lauded by blogs such as Under Control and Never Enough Notes in the Furs' homeland for their efforts. The band also recently landed three songs in neo-noir thriller Web series Resurrection of Serious Rogers. After a rain-soaked but still scintillating set at Free Press Summerfest, the five-piece returns indoors Friday for a free show marking the digital release of their latest single, the propulsive, anything-but-moribund "Play Dead."
