If you were a fan of the Squirrel Nut Zippers in the '90s, have a severe addiction to HBO's Boardwalk Empire or just prefer the Roaring Twenties to the Über-Depressing '10s, then Austin's White Ghost Shivers are more than likely about to be your favorite band. This vaudeville-informed group, seven members strong, uses ukuleles, banjos, slide whistles, saws and violins to soothe the masses, along with songs about not-so-bygone pastimes such as cocaine, loose women and damned religion. Don't be so quick to dismiss the Shivers as a throwback act, considering that these same sounds are now currently back en vogue, but the new rootsy craze only proves that the Shivers were doing it all first and better. Be sure to pick up the band's brand-new, self-released Nobody Loves You Like We Do, which features new member and ex-Zipper pianist Reese Gray.
