Young Jeezy

Despite the success of Young Jeezy's 2008 LP (The Recession, platinum), it seemed like his latest album, Thug Motivation 103: Hustlerz Ambition, was doomed to wander the ether. It was dangled in front of noses for two years, missing release dates and just generally existing in a state of chaos (the record label denied the album was ready, while Jeezy did his very best to let everyone know that it was). But then, as though preordained by the Rap Gods, six years and five months after his beautiful debut effort, Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101, was released and shifted rap's paradigm, TM103 arrived. And, wow. It is elegant and aggressive and passionate. More important for now, though: It is built to be performed live (the dreary rasp of his voice is framed nearly perfectly by the same kind of low-key anthemic production that powers the most enjoyable rap concerts). See him New Year's Eve. All will lose their minds.
