If you're already planning to enjoy a water-logged happy hour, but haven't settled on a place, the folks at Wabash Feed Store are inviting anyone and everyone to come by their feed shop and sip some brew at the first ever "Wabash Night Out." Owner Betty Heacker is trying to instill a West Alabama Ice House vibe into Washington Avenue, though she promises she's not trying to steal anyone's thunder. "I love the sense of community that the West Alabama Ice House has created," she says, "and I'm just trying to create something similar here."
Starting at 6:30 p.m., you can nurse $1.50 domestics and $2 import beers (wine's $1.50) while you peruse Wabash's gardening items, plants, Texana (giant Lone Star, anyone?) and a slew of animals, including kittens, puppies and even a rooster. (When I was there earlier this week for a story I'm working on, the rooster starting squawking just after 5 p.m.) But this ain't no shopping party. You can get into some Texas Hold 'Em or other card games, or just sit around drink. (I'm planning to stop by for the cheap booze.)
Wabash Feed Store is located at 5701 Washington Avenue. Questions? Give 'em a call at 713-863-8322. — Steven Devadanam
