Another Conservative Voice Outed Behind Anonymous Account -- This Time, with As Much NSFW Talk As You Could Want

You stay classy, AgendaWise.
You stay classy, AgendaWise.

There's something to be said about anonymity on the Internet. Well, there are many things, many of which I'd never want to attach my name to. Hence, the wonder of pseudonyms and false accounts, allowing those tasked with maintaining a professional veneer to unleash all the words and sentiments swirling just behind their masks.

Of course, the success of such pseudonyms can remain only so long as the secret is never outed. The separation must be sacrosanct -- if the connection is created, the magic is lost. Suddenly, all that your pseudonym's said becomes your own, and whatever homophobic, infantile slurs your alter ego conjures swiftly becomes your own. Just ask Daniel Greer, an Austin-based conservative activist who earlier this month experienced the repercussions of one of the more vile online outings the state has seen in some time.

Unlike Texas conservative Josh Trevino's surprise identification recently as a paid pro-Malaysian, pro-autocracy hack, Greer was revealed earlier this month to be something arguably more reprehensible. One of the founders of AgendaWise, a conservative site focused on Texas legislation, Greer has been known for being largely outspoken, and relatively un-keeled. He's most often found spouting off on Twitter, haranguing those with whom he disagrees. He's not precisely known for exhibiting unfailing class.

On May 16, Greer thought he'd spend the night offering more pithy epithets. Responding to a Tweet from Justin Williamson, a social media specialist out of Austin's Raconteur Media, Greer wrote,

Now, calling someone an "asshat" seems about par for Greer's sophomoric leanings. However, as Williamson tabbed at the time of the Tweet, it appeared that Greer wasn't the only one to call him an "asshat" -- and send the exact same Tweet -- at precisely the same time:

(It seems as appropriate a moment as any to point out that Greer's Twitter biography labels him as a "[h]usband" and a "father." If this is the case, our eternal sympathies to his wife and child(ren).)

Williamson proceeded to call Greer on the double-tap, with the latter responding, "I guess you're going to tell me after you pull out your tarot cards and put on your tin foil hat." However, in a now-deleted Tweet, Greer decided that it was worth dropping the strongest language yet, writing, "After claiming he was off to enjoy his "Thursday" (whatever the f that means) fag tweeted about his lover Steve Mostyn." (Greer later blamed the language on autocorrect. We're still attempting to figure out what word would have auto-corrected to "fag." He also later said he apologized to those he addressed with an "inappropriate word," so...we're not quite sure which route he's chosen.)

Anyway, while Greer ended the conversation shortly later, a bit of sleuthing into the @richardfiasco handle revealed a trove of language at which Greer had only hinted while using his personal e-mail. The account has since been disabled, but former State Republican Executive Committee member Mark McCaig managed to compile a screenshot of the most troubling Tweets before deletion. We'll let him take it away:

This one goes after State Senator Kel Seliger, State Rep. Charlie Geren, Speaker Joe Straus, and political consultant Bryan Eppstein:

Here is Greer's opinion of State Representative Larry Gonzales:

As it is, after Greer offered a half-ass Sorry If You Were Offended apology, AgendaWise's board released a statement a few days later. In lieu of taking the expected route and firing Greer, they instead...opted to grant him a leave of absence. After being shown to have called a state representative a "smarmy little bitch," accusing a quartet of Austin figures of having "fag...hearts," and after offering, well, whatever it was that final Tweet entailed, AgendaWise decided it was in their best interest to maintain Greer's presence on their staff.

As to why they decided this was the best course of action, we still don't know. AgendaWise did not return a request for comment. Or, well, maybe they did -- we may as well assume that one of the plethora of anonymous comments peppering our social media accounts is from them. Good to stick to what you know, guys.
