Another Round In the Jolanda Jones-Jeff Caynon Pissing Match

You know how there are things you know you're supposed to care about, but you just can't bring yourself to do it?

That's kinda how we feel about the ongoing pissing match between city council member Jolanda Jones and firefighters union chief Jeff Caynon.

As everyone knows, there's been a series of allegations that the fire department is home to racists and sexists. City council and the mayor have dithered on about it, asking for investigations and threatening the deployment of dreaded "diversity trainers."

Caynon is the head of the Houston Professional Firefighters Association; he also "happens to be," as they say, black. He's been aggressively vociferous in his defense of HFD.

Jones, who also happens to be yadda yadda, has been just as aggressively vociferous in her criticism.

And now we have the dueling affidavits.

Jones released a letter a while back signed by current and former firefighters saying she's right, by God.

Caynon then produced affidavits from four of the signees saying they wanted their names off the letter.

Now Jones has produced her own affidavit, from the guy who got those four to sign on. It's a tangled tale full of allegations of union intrigue, and you can read it here.

It doesn't really move the ball at all in terms of whether there's rampant racism and sexism in HFD, but we guess it's fun if you like watching pissing matches.
