Bayou Body Count: Death At A Church
It was a sad start to the Christmas season last weekend at the Market Street Baptist Church. On Saturday morning, the only trinity on anyone's mind was gunfire, blood and death.
A little bit before 10 a.m., police got a call that a family was fighting at the church and that someone had a gun. When the cops arrived, they found Stuart Proulx, 49, leaning out of an upstairs window popping off rounds from a 20-gauge shotgun. Police say one of the shots appeared to be aimed at officer C. Lagroue, who fired back at Proulx. Both men missed.
Proulx then barricaded himself inside, police say, while HPD's SWAT team swung into action. Police say they later discovered that Proulx had shot and killed himself in the church.
As is always the case when an officer fires his gun, the case will be investigated by HPD's Internal Affairs Department and the Harris County D.A.'s office.

It look as if a pair of alleged summer-time slayers will spend this year's holiday behind bars on charges of capital murder. Both Casey Carmon, 17, and Minh Truong, 20, are locked up in the Harris County jail without bond.
Police claim that the duo were involved in the deadly shooting of 57-year-old Shahzad Quraishi and the wounding of Mohammad Aziz Zubair, 55, on the morning of June 3. After the two men had been shot, police say, Zubair was able to dial 9-1-1 and give the operator a description of the attackers, which led to the eventual arrest.
Homicide detectives are also working on a couple of cases with little to go on.
On Saturday evening at 6114 Renwick, a 16-year-old boy was visiting the Napoleon Square Gardens Apartments when out of nowhere a stranger walked up to him and shot him several times, police say. Police are still investigating.
