This bouquet of blackened roses was delivered to the Houston Press offices just in time for Mother's Day. Addressed to reviewer Brian McManus, the card said thanks from the "owners, staff and customers of Montrose Diner."
McManus had dissed the diner in his May 5 review, "There's No Place Like Home." But there was another obvious message -- bud off! -- in the ebony paint darkening the rose tips.
A "Montrose mix" order was attached -- the meal so memorably described by McManus as a "fried crap basket." Everyone at the Press agreed it was a warm and heartfelt gesture.
