Cast a Vote & Houston Might Get a Grant Funding One-Bin Garbage Collection
Every day, don't you just hate separating your junk from what needs to be recycled and what's trash so that the city of Houston doesn't fine you for hating the Earth (and Captain Planet)? Well, that can all change by spamming a few clicks.
The Bloomberg Philanthropies' Mayors Challenge has selected Houston's "One Bin for All" innovation as a finalist. The innovation allows residents to place all of their trash into a single bin, with advances in technology further separating the trash and creating a high diversion rate.
But wait, there's more!
The city says:
Our innovation will:
-- Provide every residence with curbside One Bin for All services;
-- Decrease the volume of waste sent to landfills and increase recycling rates;
-- Improve air quality by eliminating truck routes and reducing methane emissions from landfills; and
-- Manage costs associated with waste collection and disposal and recycling, saving cities money.

This innovation is not cheap, therefore the city of Houston needs your vote. If Houston were to win, it would receive a large grant to make this a reality. (Note: This program is different from the one going on in some neighborhoods, which have one-bin recycling. This new program would have one bin for everything -- garbage, recycling, etc.)
Plus, Mayor Annise Parker is asking pretty nicely for your vote.
Voting runs from now until Wednesday, March 6, so the power is yours to make this happen!
